Hollywood is about to become a little more magical.
Universal Studios Hollywood announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, the theme-park attraction based on the world created by J.K. Rowling, will be opening at the California park next year, following its success at Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Japan.
The new attraction will feature “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” a flight simulator that allows guests to travel alongside Harry, Hermione and Ron in what Universal Studios is describing as “hyper-realistic 3D-HD” (guests will wear “Quidditch-inspired 3D goggles” to get the full experience, apparently). Visitors also will be able to take a ride on Universal Studios Hollywood’s first outdoor roller coaster, “Flight of the Hippogriff,” and visit one of a number of Harry Potter-inspired eateries or stores, including Wiseacre’s Wizarding Equipment, Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods and the Hog’s Head Pub.
In a statement, Larry Kurzweil, president of Universal Studios Hollywood, said that “Harry Potter is an exhilarating multigenerational global phenomenon that has captivated the world’s attention across every one of its mediums, from books and movies to exhilarating theme-park adventures,” adding that “Universal Studios Hollywood is thrilled to bring our guests a new, compelling experience of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter as we embark on this next chapter in our storied history.”
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open at Universal Studios Hollywood in spring 2016.
