Best Seller Novels: Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, The Hunger Games, Fifty Shades of Grey -- Translated in Tagalog

Philippine publishing house Precious Pages Corp is releasing best seller novels in Filipino translation. This is in time with The 33rd Manila International Book Fair which was held last Sept. 12-16 at SMX Convention Center at SM Mall of Asia.

Precious Pages Corp is the company behind “Precious Hearts Romances” series. They are also the ones responsible for translating books in Filipino such as Stephenie Meyer’s "Twilight", which was given the title "Takipsilim".

"Takipsilim" Synopsis:

"Takipsilim" which contain 560 pages costs at P199 each. "New Moon" or "Bagong Buwan" translation is already in the works.

"The Vampire Diaries" by L.J. Smith was also translated. Priced at P109 each.

Taken from "The Vampire Diaries"

Another book written by L.J. Smith and is now a growing best selling book popularly in demand and a little controversial is the "Fifty Shades of Grey". ~oh please not this one!!!

Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games” trilogy is in the selection as well.

Precious Pages Corp is now in the works of translating other novels too written by Dannielle Steele, Sidney Sheldon, Joss Stirling, Nora Roberts, Sandra Brown and Nicholas Sparks. ~oh no they too!

It was reported that it takes about two to three months to finish the translation process of a novel. But for the Precious Pages Corp they make sure that the translator is skilled in both English and Filipino. They choose a female translator if the original author is female. They try to make it colloquial so it's fluid and easy to read without actually changing the voice and style of the original writer.

Basically, they aim Filipinos to like reading. -- In our native tongue that is.

~the thing is, I don't think this is a smart move. I thought we want us Filipinos to be competitive and be able to cope globally? But why are we translating books as if we can't understand them? Sure, they are reaching below the average line population but I don't think most of them would want to read novels.

~or maybe I am wrong. Maybe I am underestimating those below the average population. Then I guess I am not the only one...

~If you are to ask me if I'll buy these books, my answer is No.
